79th ANNUAL CONVENTION
CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE
APRIL 6-10, 2010
It is my extreme pleasure to invite all to join Lady Shirley and Myself in Chattanooga, Tennessee, for the 79th Annual Convention. I am sure there will be a concerted effort by a lot of Nobles and their Ladies to see that everyone has a good time. Join one and all to take part in the pageantry of the Theme. I am sure there will be some very different things that will happen!
I am sure some of you will remember the Convention in 1991, hosted by PIC Herb Powell of Alhambra Shrine, with the Chattanooga Choo-Choo as the hosting hotel. I would like to tell you that there have been changes made and Chattanooga is well and growing. There will be plenty of parking if you drive and the hotel has shuttle service for those that fly. There are free electric buses that will carry you around downtown Chattanooga. They go to the Aquarium and the downtown area and back up Market Street, right next to the Choo-Choo.
If you have an urge to go to the Lookout Mountain area, home of Rock City and Ruby Falls, then you will have to use your own transportation/car pool. There are lots of new restaurants and some places that have survived change and doing well. The river front has been greatly improved
with the Southern Bell River Boat and Restaurant. There is an I-Max Theater within walking distance of the Aquarium. For the Ladies, and maybe some of the adventurous Nobles, there are plenty of shopping areas in and around Chattanooga. (After all-it is geared for tourists!)
As most of you know, this area is not too far from Georgia (right on the border) so I think you can expect some fairly nice weather. It is in a valley and has pretty much the same temperature as we get in Georgia, so the golf course greens should be exactly that – GREEN! I have had questions about the availability of the train cars and yes they are still there. Yes, they will be available, but they will not be part of the regular rate that I have established. They are considered as an upgrade and if you want to reserve one, the cost will be $174.00 per night. Let them know that you are with the IALOH for this rate.
Shirley and I enjoy coming to Conventions – seeing all the friends we have made and meeting new ones. The time has come to provide for each of you the hospitality we have shared with you over the years and it is our intentions to have FUN and enjoy your company and good times as we finish our tour as your Commander and Lady of the International Association Legions of Honor.
